Overview
- The Registration & Stamps Department posted a Section 22A prohibitory list on its website this week, but the public portal lacks a practical owner search and does not yet show Waqf and Endowment entries.
- Because the site requires district/mandal selection rather than name or khata lookup, many owners learn their land is restricted only when they go to Sub-Registrar Offices to register sales, gifts or mortgages.
- The revenue department’s new toll-free helpline has logged about 1,200 calls, including roughly 547 complaints about agricultural land and 433 about non-agricultural land, and owners have held sit-ins in districts such as Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Karimnagar and Vikarabad.
- Officials including Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy have said genuine grievances will be reviewed through collectors, Waqf and Endowments offices or the CCLA committee, but they warn cases tied to Bhoodan, Waqf and endowments will take longer because they are before courts.
- A separate revenue update shows prohibited area rising to about 98 lakh acres—14 lakh more than a 2018 figure—creating a political dispute with the BRS demanding a judicial probe and a detailed lineage of when parcels were added.
