Telangana Private Hospitals Suspend Aarogyasri Services Over Unpaid Dues

Patients relying on the scheme now face upfront payments at private hospitals.

Overview

  • Empanelled facilities stopped accepting Aarogyasri as well as EHS and JHS cards from 11:59 p.m. on September 16, leaving many beneficiaries turned away or asked to self-pay.
  • TANHA estimates Rs 1,300–1,500 crore in unpaid claims are pending, saying months-long arrears have pushed especially small and mid-sized hospitals to the brink.
  • The association, representing several hundred private hospitals, says roughly 20 days of talks with the Health Minister and the Aarogyasri Health Care Trust failed after an earlier 10‑day boycott ended on assurances.
  • AHCT CEO Uday Kumar appealed for services to resume, citing doubled family cover to Rs 10 lakh, 163 new procedures, revised rates for 1,375 packages, Rs 1,779 crore cleared, and monthly payouts raised to Rs 100 crore at an added cost of Rs 487.29 crore.
  • Hospitals seek immediate bill clearance and structural changes including a redrafted MoU, regular payment protocols, package revisions, a grievance redress mechanism, and an end to cancellations and deductions.
