Telangana Presses Centre for Rapid Approval of Multiple Rail Projects

The state told the Union Railway Minister that quick central approvals are needed to unlock industrial growth.

Overview

  • Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday to ask for expedited alignment approvals, Railway Board sanctions and faster processing of surveys and DPRs for high-speed and regional lines.
  • The Detailed Project Report for the 130 km Vikarabad–Krishna line, estimated at ₹2,750 crore, has been completed and submitted to the Railway Board for approval, the state said.
  • Telangana has reviewed and formally sent revised alignments for the Hyderabad–Pune, Hyderabad–Bengaluru and Hyderabad–Chennai high-speed corridors but has not begun land acquisition because it awaits central alignment clearance.
  • The state has asked for sanction of several regional lines and a mega coaching and freight depot at Anantaram, offering to hand over 409 acres for the depot and to bear land acquisition costs for specific projects.
  • If the Centre and Railway Board approve surveys and alignments, officials say projects could unlock cement and textile hubs around new limestone finds and speed freight links for exports, but construction cannot start until technical sanctions and land clearance are granted.
