Telangana Orders Multi-Agency Inspections of Private Colleges Receiving Scholarship Funds

Officials say the checks were triggered by reports of irregularities in post-matric scholarships.

Overview

  • The Scheduled Caste Development Department directed the Vigilance and Enforcement wing to immediately inspect all institutions drawing Reimbursement of Tuition Fee and Maintenance Fee funds.
  • The Director-General of Vigilance and Enforcement is the nodal officer and must file detailed reports with recommendations after the visits.
  • Police and anti-corruption units, including the DGP, CID, ACB, Intelligence and the commissionerates of Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Rachakonda and Warangal, will support the inspection teams.
  • The probe covers professional, degree and postgraduate colleges and will verify student eligibility and admissions, attendance and performance, staffing levels and infrastructure against recognition norms.
  • Private college bodies have announced an indefinite shutdown from November 3 over fee-reimbursement arrears, with FATHI claiming only ₹300 crore of a promised ₹1,200 crore was released and seeking ₹900 crore by November 1 and a roadmap to clear dues reported above ₹8,000–₹9,000 crore.
