Telangana Orders Immediate Release of ₹92 Crore for Gurukuls and KGBVs After Clearing ₹303 Crore in Overseas Scholarships

A finance review also ordered routine inspections of hostels to check food quality and facilities.

Overview

  • Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka directed the Finance Department to release ₹92 crore to Gurukuls, KGBVs and best available schools with immediate effect during a Thursday review.
  • The order follows his Wednesday directive to clear Rs 303 crore in pending Overseas Scholarship dues from 2022 to date in one go for SC, ST, BC, OC and Minority students.
  • Officials were told to clear pending mess, rent and cosmetic-charge bills for tribal welfare residential schools and both tribal and general gurukuls without delay to prevent hardship for students.
  • The review mandated regular visits to government schools and welfare hostels to verify the prescribed menu and assess the quality of food, accommodation and other facilities.
  • The government framed the moves as systematic clearance of old and current dues, with reporting noting that withheld scholarship payments had strained students abroad facing higher costs and tighter rules in countries such as the US and the UK.
