Overview
- The Karimnagar centralised community kitchen was formally inaugurated by BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday and is run in partnership with the Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Foundation.
- The facility was built at a reported cost of Rs 8 crore and is configured to supply breakfast to about 49,000 students in 669 government schools and 11 junior colleges across 17 mandals in the district.
- Officials and implementing staff say the kitchen is equipped with high‑capacity machinery, an on‑site laboratory for meal testing, and about 100 workers able to produce thousands of portions per hour.
- The breakfast menu was designed by the National Institute of Nutrition and will follow a weekday schedule with headmasters required to send student counts a day in advance so food reaches schools by 7:30 a.m.
- State leaders say proposals call for centralised kitchens in all 31 districts, coverage of 23,106 schools, creation of direct and indirect jobs, and budgetary outlays of roughly Rs 240–245 crore as the next step.
