Telangana Notifies 300 Wards for Expanded GHMC
A government order finalizes the ward count following a study to rebalance representation after recent municipal mergers.
Overview
- The Municipal Administration and Urban Development department issued G.O. Ms. No. 266 on December 8 to formalize the change.
- The move doubles the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s wards from 150 to 300 to reflect its enlarged limits covering the Telangana Core Urban Region.
- The decision draws on a Ward Reorganisation Framework prepared by the Centre for Good Governance and submitted by the GHMC Commissioner.
- Authorities signaled that delimitation will follow, with ward boundaries to be redrawn in coordination with district administrations in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Sangareddy and Medchal–Malkajgiri.
- The expanded civic area is reported to have grown from about 650 square km to roughly 2,000 square km, shaping election planning, service delivery and infrastructure mapping.
