Telangana Launches Steel Bank Initiative to Cut Single-Use Plastic

A Rs 2.5 crore scheme will equip 276 women-led self-help groups with reusable steel utensils to curb plastic waste, improving rural health.

  • The Ponnam Sattaiah Charitable Trust funded the steel bank in memory of Minister Ponnam Prabhakar’s father with a Rs 2.5 crore endowment.
  • Each kit contains essential items such as tiffin plates, water and tea glasses, cooking pots, buckets and spoons.
  • The initiative will reach 276 women-led self-help groups across 164 villages in the Husnabad constituency to promote reusable alternatives at community events.
  • Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Konda Surekha and SC Commission chairman Bakki Venkaiah joined the launch to underscore government and civil society collaboration.
