Telangana Land Policy Row Deepens as BRS Alleges Rs 5 Lakh Crore Scam and Minister Says KTR Backed Plan

The HILTP cites unviable or polluting legacy industrial units to justify repurposing plots near Hyderabad’s ORR.

Overview

  • The state issued a Government Order to implement the Hyderabad Industrial Land Transformation Policy to convert older industrial parcels near the ORR into integrated urban uses.
  • BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao alleged a Rs 5 lakh crore land scam, claiming industrial plots are being handed to private individuals at steep discounts and warning of job losses for workers.
  • KTR asserted the government is valuing land at around Rs 4,000 per square yard against a market price he pegged at roughly Rs 1 lakh, and he cited a figure of 9,300 acres as being targeted.
  • BRS escalated its campaign with a Jeedimetla field visit, rallies, plans for an all-party meeting and roundtables, a possible court challenge, and a pledge to reclaim the land if it returns to power.
  • Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy countered that the policy framework originated under the previous BRS administration and said KTR signed a related file, while also pointing to earlier BRS-era land conversions and auctions.
