Overview
- Fieldwork for the transect and trail walk phase is scheduled for January 17–23, 2026, with volunteers paired with trained frontline staff for the full seven-day effort.
- Applicants must be 18–60 years old, able to walk 10–12 km per day in rugged terrain, and willing to stay in remote camps with minimal facilities.
- Volunteers will use the M-STrIPES mobile app to record direct sightings and indirect signs, conduct habitat quality assessments and vegetation sampling, and document human and cattle pressures.
- The department will provide basic accommodation, simple locally sourced food, and field transport, with no honorarium, and participants must bring their own trekking shoes.
