Overview

  • The High Court allowed Reddy’s 2020 plea under Section 482 of the Criminal Procedure Code to quash the 2016 FIR filed at Gachibowli police station under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
  • Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya determined that the prosecution offered no evidence linking Reddy to the offence and that none of the eight witnesses placed him at the scene.
  • The original complaint had accused Reddy’s relatives of encroaching on 31 acres in Gopanpally village, demolishing structures with a JCB and hurling caste-based insults at the complainant.
  • The case had been pending before the Special Sessions Judge in Ranga Reddy district since its registration in 2016 and subsequent trial proceedings.
  • With the FIR dismissed, Reddy is relieved of the principal legal challenge stemming from the contested land dispute and alleged caste atrocity.
