Overview

  • The court permitted CBIT to collect annual fees of ₹2.23 lakh for BE/BTech, ₹1.51 lakh for MTech and ₹1.40 lakh for MBA/MCA from 2025-26 to 2027-28, subject to further orders.
  • Other private engineering colleges were denied interim relief, keeping their tuition at the 2022-25 block-period rates through 2027-28.
  • Justice K. Lakshman criticised TAFRC’s repeated delays since December 2024 and mandated the panel to forward final recommendations to the government within six weeks.
  • The government’s June 30 order extending previous fees had followed proposals for hikes as high as 70–100% that regulators found excessive.
  • Next hearings are scheduled for late July as colleges await a definitive fee-fixation order and the state’s final decision.
