Overview

  • Governor Jishnu Dev Varma granted sanction on November 20 following a September 9 request from the ACB, clearing the way to prosecute BRS leader K. T. Rama Rao.
  • The case stems from an October 18, 2024 complaint by MA&UD Principal Secretary M. Dana Kishore; an FIR was registered on December 19, 2024 naming KTR, senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar and former HMDA engineer B. L. N. Reddy.
  • Investigators allege HMDA transferred ₹45.7 crore to Formula‑E Operations in September–October 2023 without Cabinet or Finance Department approval, made foreign remittances without required clearances that triggered an ₹8.06 crore tax burden, and processed payments during the Model Code of Conduct.
  • Clearance from the Union DoPT is still needed to proceed against Arvind Kumar, leaving open whether the ACB will file a consolidated chargesheet or move first against KTR alone.
  • KTR denies wrongdoing and calls the case political, the BRS alleges vendetta, Congress leaders defend the sanction as accountability, and the ED is pursuing parallel PMLA and FEMA angles.
