The Telangana government has withdrawn its earlier approval for ticket price hikes and additional screenings for the film 'Game Changer,' effective January 16, 2025.
The High Court directed the government to reconsider its decision after petitions raised concerns about public safety and fairness.
The initial order allowed six screenings on opening day, including a 4 a.m. show, and temporary price hikes of ₹150 for multiplexes and ₹100 for single-screen theaters.
The reversal comes after criticism tied to a December 2024 stampede at a film premiere, which resulted in one death and injuries, prompting stricter safety measures.
Future early morning shows in Telangana are now prohibited until public health and safety considerations are thoroughly addressed.
