Telangana Food-Safety Drive Seizes Contaminated Spices, Flags Violations at Hyderabad Units

Samples were sent for laboratory analysis to support enforcement of hygiene and labelling rules statewide.

Overview

  • Inspectors checked more than 30 spice manufacturing and repacking units in Hyderabad and Rangareddy during the ongoing statewide operation.
  • Over 40 enforcement and surveillance samples were taken, covering chilli, turmeric, black pepper, coriander, curry leaf powder and bay leaves.
  • Serious breaches were recorded at Srivari Spices & Foods Ltd in Jalpally and Divine Spices in Bandlaguda Jagir, including pest infestation, poor hygiene and missing FoSTaC-trained supervision.
  • Officials seized 15 kilograms of black pepper and 18 kilograms of bay leaves reported to be contaminated with rat faeces and sent them for analysis.
  • Unlabelled curry leaf powder was confiscated for violating labelling rules, and multiple improvement notices were issued as enforcement actions began.
