Telangana Deworming Drive Covers 85.6 Lakh Children on First Day

Eluru district will administer Albendazole to 3,76,263 children on August 12 with a mop-up session set for August 20

Overview

  • Telangana launched its National Deworming Day campaign on August 11 targeting 96.17 lakh children aged 1–19 through schools, anganwadi centres and higher education institutions.
  • By the end of the launch day, 85.58 lakh children had received Albendazole, with Hyderabad recording 9.87 lakh doses followed by Rangareddy (7.8 lakh) and Medchal Malkajgiri (7.77 lakh).
  • ASHA workers, anganwadi staff, ANMs and health supervisors administered tablets after lunch in school and anganwadi settings with a mop-up exercise scheduled for August 18 to reach absentees.
  • In Eluru district, 3,76,263 children will receive Albendazole on August 12 with a mop-up session on August 20 to ensure full coverage.
  • Children aged 1–2 are given a half (200 mg) tablet and those aged 2–19 a full (400 mg) dose as part of efforts to curb post-monsoon worm infections and improve child health and school attendance.
