Telangana Cyber Bureau Secures Court-Ordered Refund of 2,703 USDT in Matrimony Crypto Scam

Investigators traced the assets to a Chinese national’s OKX wallet after a June complaint.

Overview

  • The victim, a software professional from Mancherial, reported losing ₹87.58 lakh after being lured by a fake ‘Nanditha Reddy’ profile on Bharat Matrimony.
  • TGCSB froze the suspect wallet and had 2,703 USDT (about ₹2.38 lakh) transferred to its official account, with the sum to be credited to the victim after final court clearance.
  • Police say the scheme used a bogus trading platform that showed fabricated profits to elicit larger transfers and demanded fees labeled as tax, conversion charges and a ‘fraud investigation’ deposit.
  • A portion of the funds was tracked to an OKX wallet held by Jiang Chuanxuan, a Chinese national, while other amounts moved through multiple Indian bank accounts.
  • Officials called the cross-border crypto refund a rare outcome and urged the public to verify identities before sending money or cryptocurrency to contacts from matrimonial sites.
