Telangana Confirms Sankranti Kite, Balloon and Drone Festivals for Jan. 13–18

Organisers aim to boost cultural tourism by pairing traditional fare with high-profile aerial attractions.

Overview

  • The International Kite & Sweets Festival will run at Secunderabad’s Parade Grounds from January 13 to 15 with night flying, handloom and handicraft stalls, and food courts.
  • A Drone Festival at Gachibowli Stadium is set for January 13 and 14 featuring an LED-lit FPV racecourse, giant-screen feeds, multi‑colour displays and drone “soccer.”
  • The Hot Air Balloon Festival is scheduled for January 16 to 18 with 15 international‑standard balloons arriving from European operators.
  • Balloon operations will have morning sessions on Hyderabad’s outskirts and evening “night glow” shows at Parade Grounds, with morning launch sites still being finalised.
  • Around 40 international and 55 national kite flyers are expected, and the sweets showcase will be curated with CLIC featuring confections made by Hyderabad residents from diverse regions.
