Telangana CM Threatens PRLIS Reversion to Jurala; BRS Boycotts Assembly

The warning follows his order for an inquiry into the BRS-era source change that allegedly inflated costs.

Overview

  • After a day-long Assembly debate, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said the state would shift PRLIS back to the Jurala intake if approvals to lift from Srisailam are denied, asserting Telangana can draw significant volumes from Jurala without interstate hurdles.
  • Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy’s presentation alleged the source shift raised lifts from three to five stages and pumps from 22 to 37, pushing costs from about ₹32,000 crore to roughly ₹80,000–₹84,000 crore and proceeding without timely clearances.
  • BRS legislators walked out and announced a boycott of the winter session, accusing the Speaker of bias and objecting to the Chief Minister’s remarks, including during exchanges on the Musi River plan.
  • BRS leader K. T. Rama Rao alleged the Musi rejuvenation project is a cover for large-scale corruption, questioning a ₹1.5 lakh crore estimate before a DPR, warning of mass evictions and citing a firm he claimed was blacklisted, while the government said an initial ₹7,000 crore phase would begin within months.
  • The government reiterated claims that the previous regime accepted only 299 TMC of Krishna waters for Telangana versus 511 TMC for Andhra Pradesh, pledged to finish pending Krishna-basin works in three years, and pointed to ongoing central committee and tribunal processes shaping final allocations.
