Telangana Breaks Ground on Bharat Future City, Launches FCDA HQ and Radial Road

The launch moves the net-zero smart city from plans to early works, with the state seeking clearances and overseas funding.

Overview

  • Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy laid foundation stones for the Future City Development Authority headquarters at Meerkhanpet and for Radial Road-1, a 41.5 km link between the Outer Ring Road and the proposed Regional Ring Road.
  • The government set December 2026 targets for completing the FCDA building and a Skill University, with the CM pledging to hold investor meetings at the site several times a month.
  • Planned over roughly 765 sq km across 56 revenue villages, the project is billed as a net-zero smart city with underground power, sponge parks, zero-discharge water systems and a 15,000-acre reserve forest.
  • Connectivity proposals include a greenfield highway to Machilipatnam port and a dry port, while the CM said the Centre has agreed to a bullet train link to Amaravati, plans that would require formal approvals.
  • The FCDA, created by GO Ms. No. 69 with single-window clearances and initial staffing in place, is courting support from the World Bank and JICA as the CM urges out-of-court land settlements and opposition leaders criticize the initiative.
