Overview
- Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil on Wednesday to press the Centre to persuade Maharashtra to accept a higher barrage height.
- The state wants the barrage raised from the earlier agreed 148 metres to about 150–152 metres so water can flow by gravity and avoid costly electric lift irrigation.
- Telangana cited a Pune Central Water and Power Research Centre study that found little extra submergence at 152 metres and said affected land would remain under 1,000 hectares.
- Union Minister Patil acknowledged the Prime Minister’s office letter and said the Central Water Commission will hold a technical review followed by official-level talks between Telangana and Maharashtra.
- If Maharashtra does not agree, the dispute will move through CWC technical findings, inter-state official and ministerial negotiations, and possible political mediation, with impacts on irrigation for Adilabad and project costs.
