Teens Accused of Intentional Hit-And-Run Killing of Retired Police Chief Laugh, Flip Off Victim’s Family In Court; Trial Set for September 2024
Accused teens, Jesus Ayala and Jzamir Keys, face maximum sentence of 20 years to life if convicted of the murder of retired police chief Andreas Probst, after a disturbing video emerged showcasing their alleged hit-and-run crime series.
- Jesus Ayala, 18, and Jzamir Keys, 16, are facing multiple felony charges, including murder, after a video emerged of the pair allegedly filming themselves running over and killing 64-year-old retired police chief, Andreas "Andy" Probst during a morning bike ride on August 14, 2023.
- Ayala and Keys showcased disrespectful behavior in court, seen laughing, covering their mouths, and reportedly flipping off the victim’s family. Ayala's public defender, David Westbrook, also appeared to be laughing with Ayala in court.
- Their allegedly disrespectful behavior in court led to public outrage, particularly from the victim's family who slammed their actions as showing no remorse.
- Probst's daughter, Taylor, criticizing the teens' behavior in court, stated that both teens really had no remorse and this was 'just a game to them'. Bodycam footage from Ayala's arrest showed Ayala arguing that he would be released in 30 days.
- It's reported that this was not an isolated incident for the accused as earlier that same day, they reportedly hit another cyclist, a 72-year-old man, who survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
