• The boy, described as being in his mid-teens, was bitten on the stomach and sustained significant abdominal injuries.
• He received initial treatment at Thursday Island Hospital before being airlifted in a life-threatening condition to Townsville University Hospital.
• A hospital spokesperson said his condition remained critical on Sunday morning.
• Shark attacks in the area are uncommon, though the Torres Strait has recorded fatal incidents in the past.
