Teenage Girl Dies After A19 Crash Near Sunderland, Driver Critically Injured

Police collision investigators are seeking dash-cam footage to determine how a Vauxhall Corsa left the northbound carriageway before catching fire.

  • The single-vehicle collision occurred shortly after 11pm on 24 November between Seaham and the A690 Herrington Interchange.
  • Northumbria Police confirmed the 17-year-old passenger died at the scene and the 19-year-old driver was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary.
  • Fire crews extinguished the burning car and NEAS deployed ambulance teams, a specialist paramedic, HART and a GNAAS doctor.
  • The A19 was closed in both directions overnight, with the southbound reopening around 8am and the northbound at 9:50am after investigation and recovery.
