Overview

  • At a July 15 children’s court hearing, the 17-year-old remained in custody over the March attempt to hijack a Jetstar flight at Avalon Airport.
  • He has undergone initial brain scans with further neurological imaging set for late August to determine if an organic condition contributed to his behaviour.
  • A psychiatric assessment is also under way but its report will be deferred until after the brain scans are complete.
  • Prosecutors withdrew four weapons-related charges—including allegations of stealing shotguns and unlicensed possession—while maintaining hijacking and bomb-threat counts.
  • Federal suppression orders on the teen’s alleged foreign communications and documents in his vehicle were extended, and the case was adjourned to October pending expert reports.
