Teen Killed, Three Wounded in Separate South Side Shootings

Detectives are investigating two Western Avenue attacks with no arrests.

Overview

  • In Gage Park around 10:30 p.m., a gunman approached a parked car in the 5800 block of South Western Avenue, opened fire, and fled.
  • A 19-year-old struck multiple times was pronounced dead at UChicago Medicine, and a 22-year-old wounded in the stomach and back was listed in serious condition at the same hospital.
  • A 41-year-old with lower-torso wounds from the Gage Park attack was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition.
  • Earlier around 7:40 p.m., a 57-year-old man was found shot in the neck in the 9200 block of South Western Avenue and was transported to Christ Hospital in serious condition.
  • Police reported no suspects in custody in either case, and investigators have not detailed what led to the 7:40 p.m. shooting.
