Overview
- A 16-year-old swimmer suffered multiple bites to his right arm and leg from a two-metre bull shark at Norries Beach near Cabarita Beach on Sunday afternoon.
- Volunteer surf lifesaver Thiago Collela and fellow surfers placed the injured teen on a surfboard and carried him ashore where paramedics applied a tourniquet to control bleeding.
- Collela said the boy managed to kick the shark twice during the attack and stayed remarkably calm throughout the rescue.
- A Westpac Rescue Helicopter airlifted the teenager to Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in serious, stable condition.
- Authorities have closed Cabarita Beach and are conducting aerial and marine searches to confirm the shark has left the area before lifting the closure.
