Overview

• The 17-year-old was doused with a flammable liquid and set on fire inside a squatted residence in La Isleta around 04:00 on July 16
• Bomberos de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Policía Local, Policía Nacional and the Servicio de Urgencias Canario extinguished the flames and treated both the victim and her partner on site before transporting them to Hospital Doctor Negrín
• Authorities reclassified the incident from a presumed domestic fire to an intentional act of gender-based violence following testimony from the teenager and a witness
• The 20-year-old suspect, who arrived from Morocco by boat in early June and faced a pending deportation order, remains in police custody at the hospital while recovering from smoke inhalation
• Medical reports indicate the teenager has sustained burns across approximately 90% of her body
