Teen Driver Killed on Florida’s Turnpike in Rear-End Collision With Merging Tow Truck

Troopers say the truck moved from the shoulder into her lane, with the investigation ongoing.

An 18-year-old woman from Southwest Ranches driving a 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E died at the scene north of mile marker 291 in Lake County.
The crash happened around 9:44 p.m. Saturday as both vehicles were heading south in the outside lane.
Florida Highway Patrol reports the 2024 Hino tow truck, driven by a 53-year-old Ocala man, was merging from the outside shoulder when it was struck from behind.
The tow truck driver was uninjured and remained at the scene, according to FHP.
Authorities have not announced any citations, charges, or contributing-factor determinations.
