Teen Charged in MBTA State Street Explosion Held on $10,000 Bail

Prosecutors say he threw a rider’s suitcase onto the third rail, triggering a blast that halted service.

Overview

  • Addonis Reed, 19, pleaded not guilty to obstructing or endangering a railroad, larceny from a person, unarmed robbery, disorderly conduct, and two counts of malicious destruction of property.
  • Judge Mark Summerville set bail at $10,000, imposed stay-away orders from the victim and all MBTA stops, and committed Reed to Suffolk County Jail.
  • The court also revoked Reed’s bail for 60 days in two open Boston Municipal Court cases that include allegations of disorderly conduct and assaults, prosecutors said.
  • MBTA Transit Police reported identifying Reed from station surveillance footage after the Jan. 14 confrontation at State Street.
  • The victim told officials the suitcase contained two iPads, an Acer laptop, AirPods, and chargers valued at more than $3,000, and a probable-cause hearing is set for Feb. 20.
