Teen Charged in Golden Gate Park Restroom Assault of 13-Year-Old as Arraignment Is Set for Today

Prosecutors are seeking to detain Dominick Valle-Buitrago without bail, saying DNA testing and a parent’s tip helped identify him.

Overview

  • District Attorney Brooke Jenkins’ office filed multiple felony counts, including aggravated kidnapping, forcible lewd acts upon a child, assault with intent to commit a felony, kidnapping and false imprisonment.
  • Police say the Oct. 23 attack occurred around 5:30 p.m. in bathrooms near the Polo Fields during a youth soccer practice.
  • Valle-Buitrago, 19, was arrested Oct. 30 in Pleasant Hill after investigators expedited DNA analysis and followed a parent’s tip.
  • The victim was confirmed by the DA to be a 13-year-old girl, and prosecutors described the case as very serious with potential life terms attached to some charges.
  • The initial arraignment was delayed Tuesday due to the lack of an available public defender and is now scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m., as investigators also review a possibly related report and await additional DNA results from the victim’s clothing.
