Teen Arrested for Murder in Fatal NYC Mugging

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with the shooting death of Ying Zhu Liu during a robbery attempt in her Lower East Side apartment building.

Ying Zhu Liu, 57, was shot in the face while trying to protect her husband during a robbery in their apartment building on Sept. 9.
The suspects, including 16-year-old Dante Schaller, followed Liu's husband into the elevator and attempted to rob him.
Liu's son, Lin Rong Yan, tried to intervene but was pistol-whipped by one of the suspects.
Schaller has been charged with murder, robbery, burglary, and criminal possession of a weapon; his accomplice remains at large.
The incident was captured on surveillance footage, and Schaller was identified and arrested based on the evidence.
