Teen Arrested After Shooting Near San Pablo Elementary Triggers Lockdown

  • Officers responded shortly after 9:40 a.m. to 20th Street and Sanford Avenue, a block from Downer Elementary, after reports of a boy pointing a handgun and gunshots.
  • Downer Elementary was locked down as a precaution and reopened around 1:40 p.m., police said.
  • Investigators served a search warrant at a Wilcox Avenue home, recovered evidence, and arrested a 22-year-old San Pablo man on suspicion of being an accessory.
  • The 16-year-old suspected shooter was located in class at Richmond High School and booked into Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall on a firearms-related charge.
  • Police found several expended shell casings but no victims at the scene and asked anyone with information to call the Investigations Division at 510-215-3150.
