Teen Accused of Sharing Terrorist Publications, Testing Bomb Parts on Trial at Kingston Crown Court

Prosecutors argue the case centers on alleged encouragement of violence through online posts rather than protected extremist beliefs.

Overview

  • Prosecutors opened their case on 24 November, with Rex Clark, 19, denying one count of attempting to purchase a firearm and six counts of disseminating terrorist publications.
  • The alleged dissemination spans October 2023 to summer 2024 and includes videos glorifying Anders Breivik, Brenton Tarrant and Stephan Balliet.
  • Police arrested Clark on 10 August 2024 and found components in his bedroom described as parts of improvised explosive devices, which contained no explosive material and could not detonate.
  • Between 1 June and 10 August 2024, Clark and his girlfriend allegedly sought to buy a Glock pistol; the seller had no gun to sell and prosecutors say there is no suggestion of terrorist intent for the firearm.
  • The court heard that Clark was described by the prosecution as a 'big fan of Hitler' and that his girlfriend, Sofija Vinogradova, has pleaded guilty to the attempted purchase of a gun.
