Technician Electrocuted as French Power Supplier Battles to Restore Power After Storms Ciarán and Domingos

Record-breaking storms Ciarán and Domingos leave over 470,000 homes without electricity in France, Enedis technician killed on-site as repair efforts continue.

  • A 46-year-old technician from the French power network operator Enedis was electrocuted while repairing power cables in the Brittany region, following the damage caused by Storm Ciarán.
  • Storm Ciarán and Storm Domingos, two record-breaking storms, have left over 470,000 French homes without power, necessitating large-scale repair efforts.
  • At the time of reporting, approximately 112,000 homes in Brittany and 25,200 in the nearby Normandy region were without power due to Storm Ciarán while Storm Domingos had left another 110,000 French homes powerless.
  • Apart from the power outage, the storms also resulted in the flooding of several European countries and serious injuries to nine people.
  • Storm Ciarán alone claimed 14 lives across Europe, including that of the technician, and caused significant damage to buildings in the form of torn off roofs and impact from falling trees.
