Technical Snag Halts Mumbai Monorail Near Wadala, Services Resume After 17 Evacuated

The stoppage follows last month’s mass stranding, underscoring ongoing reliability concerns.

Overview

  • The train halted near the Mukundrao Ambedkar Road junction around 7:00 a.m. on the Gadge Maharaj–Chembur run.
  • All 17 passengers were transferred to another train by about 7:40–7:45 a.m., with no injuries reported.
  • MMMOCL operated single-line services during recovery and towed the faulty rake to Wadala before fully normalizing both directions by around 9:30 a.m.
  • Monorail staff and the Mumbai Fire Brigade coordinated the evacuation as heavy rain was reported in the area, according to officials.
  • Authorities opened an inquiry into the snag, which comes weeks after an overloaded train stranded roughly 582 riders between Mysore Colony and Bhakti Park.
