Tech Investor's Wedding Trashes Utah Landmark, Sparks Backlash
Local Officials Call for Ban on Large Events at Natural Sites Following Cleanup
- Silicon Valley investor Andrew Chen and former Miss Ireland Emma Waldron held their wedding at the base of Castleton Tower, a natural landmark in Utah, over Labor Day Weekend.
- The couple had received permission for a 'simple wedding ceremony with one small white tent', but the event was much larger, including a generator, catering service, toilet facility, 24-foot cabana, and line of glass candles.
- Local council member Pamela Gibson found the area littered with trash, broken glass, and leftover food the day after the wedding, and Bureau of Land Management rangers had to clean up the site.
- The couple has since deleted or made private all photos of the event from social media.
- Local officials have written to the Bureau of Land Management asking that such receptions be prevented in the future.
