Overview
- The theatre resumed activities following a formal reopening on Friday after about two years of work and R$28.6 million in public investment split between R$14.6 million for physical works and R$14 million for equipment.
- The requalification built a new metallic passarela linking the Passeio Público to the theatre and added a ramp, elevator, stair access and accessible parking so people with reduced mobility can reach the venue.
- The Passeio Público was restored with its original layout, canteiros, paths and sections of Portuguese stone paving preserved while monuments, panels, a fountain and the mirante were repaired and relit.
- Technical systems on stage were upgraded with new sound, lighting and audiovisual equipment while the theatre opened a dedicated archive of more than one million documents that have been organized and digitized for research and new productions.
- Programming is set through January with children’s shows (Pé de Feijão for about 800 kids), a long run of the play Nilda from October, and plans to host visiting companies from Brazil and abroad to strengthen audience formation and regional networks.
