Overview
- Israeli forces fired tear gas into the Madama mosque during evening prayers on Tuesday, leaving worshippers gasping and a 66-year-old man to collapse and be taken home by family after no ambulance was available.
- Earlier on Tuesday, settlers tried to set fire to the Nur al-Din/Imad al-Din Zanki mosque in Bazariya and eyewitness photos and videos show burn marks and Hebrew graffiti on the building.
- The Palestinian Ministry of Religious Affairs and President Mahmoud Abbas’s office condemned the mosque violations and said roughly 13 mosques have been vandalised or entered by settlers or security forces so far this year.
- The United Nations reported a sharp rise in West Bank violence in 2026, recording at least 76 Palestinians killed, about 3,800 people displaced, and more than 1,400 settler attacks that caused injuries or property damage.
- Local residents and rights groups say the incidents are deepening fear, damaging homes and farmland, and that weak law enforcement and inflammatory rhetoric by far-right Israeli politicians risk further displacement and escalation.
