Overview
- Team World’s six-man squad was finalized Thursday when Andre Agassi added Tommy Paul and Learner Tien to join Ben Shelton, Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz and Alexander Bublik.
- The final lineup produces what outlets call Team World’s highest-ranked entry, led by Shelton (No. 5), de Minaur (No. 6), Fritz (No. 7), Bublik (No. 11), Tien (No. 18) and Paul (No. 24).
- Selections followed the Laver Cup process that awards automatic spots to the top three eligible players by ATP ranking and leaves three places to the captain’s discretion, a power Agassi used to shape the team.
- Fans on social media reacted to the fact that four of six World players are American, renewing criticism of the event’s ‘World’ branding and highlighting a long-term pattern of heavy U.S. representation on Team World.
- Team Europe has already committed Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Flavio Cobolli and Jakub Menšík and will name two picks later, with the competition set for Sept. 25–27 at London’s O2 Arena.
