Teachers in Salta and Jujuy Plan Staggered Strikes Ahead of Salary Talks

Minority strikes will test provincial salary talks at paritaria meetings next week.

Overview

  • In Salta, official unions will resume classes Monday despite a 48-hour strike by Docentes Autoconvocados demanding a 50% pay rise.
  • Salta’s phased proposal includes 3% in August, 2.5% in October, 2% in November and 3% in December plus improved allowances, but Sitepsa and ADP reject it as inadequate for most teachers.
  • In Jujuy, Cedems announced a 48-hour walkout starting July 28 and a faction of Adep invoked acephalous rules to call a 72-hour strike.
  • Jujuy’s government warned that unsanctioned strike calls lack legitimacy and barred their organizers from participating in formal paritaria negotiations.
  • Formal paritaria talks will restart with sectorial meetings Monday and a general session Tuesday under mounting inflationary pressure.
