Overview
- The Texas Education Agency appointed Christopher Ruszkowski as conservator, effective immediately, to oversee the board of trustees, superintendent and campus administrators.
- Under TEA rules, the conservator can direct, approve or disapprove district actions while providing coaching and reporting progress to the agency.
- State oversight is expected to last about two years as TEA implements turnaround measures across the district.
- TEA is taking applications for a board of managers and has begun a nationwide superintendent search, and current superintendent Karen Molinar says she will apply.
- The intervention follows persistent low performance, including a campus receiving a fifth consecutive unacceptable rating based on the latest available 2022–2023 data.
