Overview
- Tata Sons chairman N. Chandrasekaran told shareholders at TCS’s annual meeting that the company expects to deploy as many AI agents as human employees within three years, framing that goal as the centrepiece of an enterprise-AI strategy.
- TCS said its annualised AI revenue run-rate reached roughly $2.4–$2.5 billion in the last quarter of FY26 and has been growing at about a 22% compound quarterly rate, which company leaders use to justify scaling agents into paid services.
- The firm announced a global strategic partnership with Anthropic to train 50,000 TCS employees on the Claude models and to create a dedicated AI business unit aimed at moving pilot projects into production for regulated industries.
- TCS says it will slow hiring rather than pursue mass layoffs and will invest in reskilling employees for new AI-era roles while expanding offerings that focus on AI governance, auditability, compliance and sovereign deployments.
- The move signals a broader industry pivot: India’s largest IT services company is investing in data centres, an AI operating model and sovereign-cloud capabilities to shift from billing mainly for headcount to higher-margin, productised AI services which could reshape hiring, entry-level recruitment and client delivery models.
