Taylor Sheridan Acquires Rights to 'Empire Of The Summer Moon'

The 'Yellowstone' creator's next project to focus on the story of Comanche leader Quanah Parker

  • Taylor Sheridan, creator of the popular TV show 'Yellowstone', has acquired the rights to 'Empire Of The Summer Moon', a book by S.C. Gwynne that tells the story of the Comanche leader Quanah Parker.
  • Sheridan's production company, Bosque Ranch, won the rights to the book in a competitive bidding process.
  • The book is a historical account of the four-decade struggle between the Comanche tribe and white settlers for control of the American West, with Quanah Parker being its greatest chief.
  • It is not yet confirmed what form the adaptation will take – whether it will be a feature film (or series of films), or some form of TV series (limited or multi-seasonal).
  • Sheridan has faced criticism from some Native American people for his depiction of Native people in his shows, but he has also spent large chunks of the last several years with both a professional and personal focus on Indigenous stories and issues.
