Overview

  • Income Tax Returns for AY2025-26 must be verified online within 30 days of upload or they will be treated as invalid under the new rule.
  • Taxpayers can e-verify using Aadhaar OTP, net-banking EVC, pre-validated bank or demat accounts, a digital signature certificate, or by mailing a signed ITR-V form to CPC Bengaluru.
  • Returns e-verified or ITR-V submitted after the 30-day window are deemed furnished on the verification date, invoking late-filing penalties under relevant Income Tax Act sections.
  • Filers who miss the deadline must file a condonation-of-delay request on the official portal explaining their reasons before their returns can be processed.
  • As of early August, 2.51 crore returns have been filed online, 2.43 crore have been e-verified, 1.13 crore processed, and the portal hosts 13.21 crore registered users.
