Tate Modern Attacker Given 16-Week Term for Assaulting Broadmoor Nurses

The chief magistrate said he is very unlikely to be deemed safe for release at the end of his minimum term.

Overview

  • Jonty Bravery, 24, was sentenced at Westminster Magistrates’ Court for two counts of assault by beating after a September 30, 2024 incident at Broadmoor Hospital.
  • He refused to attend both his trial and today's sentencing, and the case was proved using body-worn video, nurse accounts and images of injuries.
  • Nurses Linda McKinlay and Kate Mastalerz were assaulted as staff restrained Bravery after he tried to climb a ledge to throw himself from it.
  • One nurse sustained facial scratches and the other a bruised thigh, and Bravery was ordered to pay £350 in addition to the concurrent 16-week term.
  • Bravery is serving a life sentence with a 15-year minimum for the 2019 Tate Modern attack, and he previously received a 14-week term in 2020 for assaults on Broadmoor staff.
