Tata Motors Announces Groupwide Reshuffle as Chandra Takes Helm Oct. 1

The reshuffle aligns leadership for a planned commercial-vehicles listing.

Overview

  • Shailesh Chandra has been appointed managing director and chief executive officer effective Oct. 1, 2025, with a term through Sept. 30, 2028, and will continue to lead Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.
  • Girish Wagh will leave his executive director role on Oct. 1 to become MD and CEO of the proposed TML Commercial Vehicles, the entity positioned for a separate listing as part of the commercial-vehicles demerger.
  • PB Balaji will resign as group chief financial officer on Nov. 17, 2025 and assume charge as CEO of Jaguar Land Rover on the same date.
  • Dhiman Gupta will become group CFO effective Nov. 17, while Balaji is slated to join the Tata Motors board as an additional non-executive non-independent director subject to shareholder approval.
  • Independent directors Hanne Sorensen, K V Chowdary, and Guenter Karl Butschek will step down around Oct. 1; Sorensen continues on JLR’s board, Chowdary and Butschek move to the TML Commercial Vehicles board, and Sudha Krishnan is appointed as an additional independent director from Oct. 1 subject to shareholder approval.
