Overview
- Twenty-one participants from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and Nepal began hands-on training in Radiation Oncology, Nuclear Medicine and Radiology at Tata Memorial Centre’s Mumbai campus.
- The intensive four-week classroom and clinical programme is part of India’s institutional capacity-building drive under the BIMSTEC Charter adopted in 2022.
- Dr Sudeep Gupta, director of Tata Memorial Centre, said training will rotate next to nine regional TMC units to extend oncology capacity across India.
- A proposal to expand the curriculum to 12 modules and determine whether the programme will run quarterly, biannually or annually is currently under review.
- Officials aim to leverage the initiative to build a collaborative research network and improve cancer care outcomes across South and Southeast Asia.
