Tata AIG Halts Cashless Treatment at Max Hospitals as Tariff Dispute Widens

A tariff standoff after a two-year rate pact has pushed Max patients to reimbursement channels supported by express desks.

Overview

  • Tata AIG stopped cashless claim settlement at Max facilities effective September 10 after seeking further rate cuts despite a January 2025–January 2027 tariff agreement, Max said.
  • Niva Bupa earlier suspended cashless treatment across all Max hospitals from August 16, while Star Health has also withdrawn the facility and Care Health’s suspension applies to DelhiNCR, according to reports.
  • Max says it has set up express desks to help patients file reimbursement claims so they do not have to make upfront payments at its hospitals.
  • The provider says there are currently no ongoing discussions with Tata AIG on restoring cashless services.
  • Industry tensions continue as the hospital body AHPI challenges insurer tariff practices, citing outdated rates, deductions, and delays in claim settlements.
