Overview

  • El Cajon’s unsheltered tally was adjusted from an initial count of 344 to a net gain of 37 people once 24 individuals outside the city limits were removed.
  • The task force acknowledged potential double counting along Caltrans rights-of-way and said it will improve volunteer coordination in future counts.
  • Officials will change census tract designations to “El Cajon, including unincorporated communities” to clarify geographic boundaries in upcoming counts.
  • Countywide homelessness fell from 10,605 last year to 9,905 this year, with 5,714 people unsheltered and 4,191 in shelters or transitional housing.
  • Task force leaders said the Point-in-Time Count remains vital for securing federal funding and guiding regional service planning despite its methodological limitations.
